Allergies and Tinnitus Yes but No Tinnitus Allergy

There is no tinnitus allergy but there is a relationship between allergies and tinnitus. So today let’s discuss briefly the relationship that has some people thinking there is a tinnitus allergy. In the matter of allergies and tinnitus one is causal the other result neither is any fun. It is no coinicidence that many people who suffer from allergies and other conditions that assault the sinuses suffer from the symptoms of tinnitus. This actually is something almost everyone who has experienced a cold or "stuffy head" from a cold has encountered to one degree or an other. Fortunately in the case of a cold as opposed to a chronic condition it is gone when the cold has run it’s course.

In the case of the person who for one reason or another often from an allergy or allergies and tinnitus the conditions are with them more often and sometimes always.

allergies and tinnitus

In the case an allergy sufferer the mucous membranes that surround the middle ear are usually the well meaning source of the tinnitus that results. I say well meaning because it is the role of these mucous membranes which surround the middle ear to perform a very important job. That job is to bathe the middle ear with fluid and in the process help to keep it clean to perform it’s delicate function in the auditory system. In the case of our allergy sufferer who is made then a  tinnitus sufferer as well, the usually useful and vitally helpful mucous becomes a problem. There is too much volume of the fluids and they change in consistency and now become thicker than normal.

Usually when there is a not a response underway to something that an individual is allergic to. The fluid or this mucous after performing it’s cleansing by gathering dust, dirt and dead skin etc from the area drains out of the middle ear via the Eustachian tubes and into the throat down it goes and eventually out it goes. In the case of an allergy sufferer the body’s response is soon causing  havoc to the proper viscosity of the fluid.  This thickened mucous will can accumulate in the middle ear as a result of becoming too thick and viscous and thus unable to exit gracefully and without notice via the Eustacian tubes. They are very small tubes. The tiny tubes just don’t allow the fluid draining necessary to keep things in proper balance.

  middle ear allergies and tinnitus

The middle ear plays an import role in the relationship between allergies and tinnitus.

The scene is now set for the build up of the mucous which causes pressures that then become the source of the sometimes maddening sounds of tinnitus. Irritation, infection and pressures from too much fluid and not enough space all together or individually are the cause of the tinnitus. Sometimes if the allergies are not dealt with effectively there can be residual tinnitus even if for instance the season for a given allergy has passed and the cause is lessened or eliminated. The middle ear is delicate indeed and if it’s environment is too long hostile a lingering tinnitus may result.

The sounds of this particular tinnitus is something as I have said most who have suffered a head cold will be able to understand only they are usually more intense. Allergies and tinnitus  a case of one thing leading to another. I hope this clears up the misconception that there is a tinnitus allergy when in fact ther are many allergies that casues the conditions for the devolpement of tinnitus.

Hypercusis and Tinnitus Retraining Therapy

While the two conditions hyperacusis and tinnitus ther is clearly an often important connection for people to information about tinnitus is important I thought I would bring this writer’s information to you.

Hyperacusis often comes on suddenly but it can surely become part fo a life gradually.  In the beginning  it mayaffect only one ear but generally speaking, within a very short period of time, the condition is most likely to and almost always bilateral.

It can be very mild or unsettling and severe. It is not uncommon for people who have hyperacusis also have tinnitus, or phantom noises in their auditory system  in the form of a ringing, buzzing, or beating.

Hyperacusis is another condition like tinnitus is a condition with an important psychological aspect. If you feel that you are being driven to the edge you should consider some counseling that might help you deal with the condition. You can be pursuing the medical or natural remedies of your choice. To stop symptoms of the conditions but you attend to the mental stresses too.

Hyperacusis is a condition where one develops an abnormal sensitivity to everyday sounds and noises. They may also be sensitivity to high pitched sounds. It is a chronic condition which is associated with tinnitus or ringing sounds in the ear. Young and old, who have both normal hearing and a hearing loss may suffer from hyperacusis.

It is a condition that develops in one slowly, maybe due to mild or severe head injuries. Some research has also proven that some brain chemistry dysfunction resulting from poor intake of some chemicals leads to hyperacusis. Sometimes job related noise exposure, drugs or surgeries of the brain, ear and any other related surgery may lead to hyperacusis and tinnitus retraining therapy.

A person suffering from hyperacusis usually experiences inner ear pain or a feeling of fullness, like pressure, in the ears. This is the reason such people have a low threshold to sound, and find it difficult to take part in much social activities. They may in fact, consider themselves socially unfit, by not being able to withstand the sounds that are associated with social activities.

Hyperacusis sufferers usually end up with tinnitus, ringing sounds in the ears. Sometimes they may also find it difficult to sleep because of the stress level they suffer from. Another cause of hyperacusis is Phonophobia. Phonophobia is a condition where the person develops a fear of being exposed to some sounds, thinking that the sounds will damage their ear.

The best way of deteriming whether you suffer from hyperacusis is through hearing tests that detect sound sensitivity. Otolaryngologists, specialists in ear, nose and throat  are also well versed in making a medical evaluation of hyperacusis.
A good treatment is through in-depth discussion of the tests performed to determine that it is hyperacusis, this is followed by a thorough explanation one hopes of the anatomy and physiology of hearing  and how it is associated with hyperacusis helps manage hyperacusis. This therapy focuses in educating the patient on hyperacusis, and to relieve their fears and concerns about it. Often patients will be advised Tinnitus Retraining Therapy (TRT), which is a habituation-oriented therapy.

With tinnitus retraining therapy, the patient’s reactions to hyperacusis are reduced by using sound therapy. With the help of sound therapy, the patient’s sensitivity to sounds is decreased, to help them view sound more positively. Tinnitus retraing therapy is usually a combination of counseling and sound therapy where the patient is exposed to low-level sound for a several hours everyday.

Then there are alternative treatments which include a specific supplementation with vitamins and minerals.

Stress of Tinnitus

How you can stop an ear ringing head. Not always a question to be answered with a treatment that is in the physical realm. This condition  tinnitus is a mighty challenge and foe.

It doesn’t sound like that big of a deal to the person who has never experienced the condition. I mean after all I’ve heard said by a non sufferere  it’s just ringing ears. However the fact is that you can’t escape it. It can border on and in fact for some has been quite maddening. It can be and often it is more of a mental problem than a physical problem.

It doesn’t matter if it isin the early morning hours and you’re unable to sleep due to an incessent hiss or pulsing ringing or you’re reading some important business related information,  there it always is. You always you hear it.

Unable to escape tinnitus frustration runs high. I am bringing you a series of articles from guest article writers which I think demonstrate the emotionality of the issue of ringing in the ears.

There are a myriad of reasons for tinnitus to become a part of the sufferer’s life. That is not the isssue in the articles I will bring over the next few installments on the blog. I just want to demonstrate that emotionality is very a big part of the condition for many and if it is for you you should know you are not alone.

If you feel that you are being driven to the edge you may want to consider some counseling that might help you deal with the condition while you are pursuing the medical or natural remedies of your choice. To stop an ear ringing head you have two options available to you.

I will be giving you an example of the protocol you can expect if you become part of a counseling program to help you with dealing with the psychological impact of tinnutis. This may come on a one to one basis or it is often approached on a group therapy basis. I like this becasue the sharing of the frutartion you are experiencing with others who have the condition is comforting in an of itself. This it has in common with many of the things in life we must endure to the best of our ability tha are responsive to group support and dynamic.

Pulsatile Tinnitus A Hearing Pulse Ringing in Ears

hearing pulse ringing in ears tinnitus fade in time

If you are experiencing pulsatile tinnitus you are not alone by any means. Of course this misery having company is no relief to the trouble you are having.

Have you ever heard of pulsatile tinnitus? Have you, or someone you know, been diagnosed with this condition? A hearing pulse ringing in ears characterizes the condition. This particular type of tinnitus can be particularly annoying due to its throbbing, or pulsating, nature. If you haven’t been diagnosed with this form of tinnitus, but suspect that you suffer from the condition, here are some things you need to know.

Pulsatile tinnitus is a form of tinnitus that produces a high-pitched squealing or hissing sound in your ear. Imagine a squeal noise similar to that of a teapot. The noise seems to pulsate in tandem with heart rate. The pitch of the noise or hissing can be just soft enough to notice, or loud enough to interfere with your day-to-day activities. no matter the volume when you experience the hearing pulse ring in ears syndrome you are flat out aware of it all the time. This is especially true at the beginnng but like other examples of the condition it may be tinnitus that fades in time.

There is a clear connection between this form of tinnitus and blood flow, so this disorder can be caused by many different circulatory problems. Tinnitus can certainly be treated and managed using folk remedies and techniques, but if you have any of the following circulatory disorders, you should get a doctor’s okay before you set out on the path to naturally cure your tinnitus. There is never any medical advice here in this weblog only information to prepare you to be a btetter consumer of medical treatments available from your doctor.

Hypertension - High blood pressure

Atherosclerosis - In plain English, atherosclerosis is the hardening of arteries. Blood flow is constricted

Capillary abnormality - Blood flow is disturbed if the capillaries are formed abnormally.

Narrowed veins - With this condition, blood flow is constricted also

Pulsatile tinnitus, or hearing pulse ringing in ears while not life-threatening itself, is indeed an annoying form of tinnitus. However, with proper self care and good health habits, you can be well on your way to being tinnitus-free. There is hope if you are a sufferer of this form of the condition and it may be a tinnitus fades in time.

Tinnitus Fades with Time?

Webmaster comment: Guest writer today. Of course the topic of the subject cannot be and is not adequately dealt with in this article but it will give you one writer’s simplistic take on the issue. I offer it more to show that there are people out there who have had success with alternative methods of treatment and more power to them. The question of how long you will suffr from tinnitus is unanswerable ther are so many causes of the condition and some of those can be dealt with easily others not at all. Does tinnitus fade with time insome cases yes some no. again can’t be answered with a yse or no sorry. I hope that the title of the article didnot lead you to think there was an actual answer.

Tinnitus. How Long Will You suffer

How long will tinnitus last? Depending on it’s cause it may last for anything from hours to years. You might be surprised to learn that tinnitus is actually a symptom of other conditions that you may have, and, that around 93% of sufferers never get relief from tinnitus.

The causes of your tinnitus are things like inner ear / auditory nerve damage, ear infections, ear wax, middle ear tumour (benign), otosclerosis, noise polution, meniere’s desease (inner ear disorder), blocked eustachian tube, etc. These are the things that could determine how long will tinnitus last.

Other potential causes are old age, hardening of the arteries, head trauma, whiplash, some medications, stress, allergies, hypertension, anemia, diet. Again, these may determine how long will tinnitus last.

There are a variety of treatments out there, but given that 93% of sufferers don’t get any relief they just don’t seem to be effective enough. And these folks are left wondering how long will tinnitus last?

Typical treatments are; medications (antibiotics, antihistamines, anti-anxiety tablets, etc.); hearing aid or tinnitus maskers; and complementary programs such as yoga, meditation and acupuncture.

Another option is invasive surgery, but this is rarely used, and, only as an absolutely last resort. especially true if you beleive tinnitus fades with time.

Because of the lack of success of mainstream treatments, and fed up with wondering just how long will tinnitus last? more and more folks are turning to natural, home-based treatments such as that devised by Geoff Barker, a tinnitus researcher and former sufferer.

He has developed a home-based program using 11 solid techniques that he discovered after years of research, testing and development. Users are able to build a treatment program that is matched to their individual needs by using some or all of his 11 proven techniques.

According to Geoff his home-based program has a success rate of 80% with even the other 20% reporting that their tinnitus is less frequent than before.

Webmaster: It is not true that tinnitus fades with time or with any one treatment. The causes and the treatments are varied. What I do know is that you can find a way to live with this condition if you get to the bottom of your own cause and then treat accordingly.

Stress Cause of Ringing in Ears Sounds of Tinnitus

stress caused ringing in ears sounds of tinnitus
Nearly a third of the population suffers from Tinnitus;  hearing pulse ringing in ears. And, of that third about 25% percent have it seriously enough to seek medical attention. So, for the millions of tinnitus patients; the ones who are suffering on a daily basis, the focus of this article is on you. I’ll be sharing with you an amazing secret which will control your tinnitus volume like nothing else out there. The catch is; it may just be the hardest thing you’ve ever had to learn.

It’s hard because most people do not understand even what it is that’s making your ringing louder, increasing the hearing pulse ringing in ears let alone how to deal with it. You hear it talked about all the time. Many people know the symptoms of it but, the vast majority of people have no idea how to deal with it. And, believe me, it’s your worst enemy as a tinnitus patient. What is it? What’s this dreaded monster? What is this causes for ringing in ears, the sounds of tiinitus.

STRESS!

I can feel you getting stressed out just by reading it. But, by far the #1 way to reduce your tinnitus volume is; ‘Get rid of your stress.’

REDUCING STRESS = REDUCING VOLUME

Why is this so hard to do? Well for starters, most people have no concept of what stress is. Most people think it’s the symptoms ie: anxiety, anxiousness, being up-tight, feeling anger, resentment etc. The truth is the symptoms are not stress. And therefore, once you learn the real definition of stress, only then can you learn to rid yourself of it. So, here’s the definition of stress…

Stress is; ‘The amount of energy you put into resisting your situation.’

It’s not the situation that’s causing you stress, it’s the energy you put into resisting the situation. Here comes the ringing or hearing pulse in the ears. So, how do you not resist it? Well, there’s really only 2 non-resistant choices you can make in any stressful situation and that is to either; a) accept it or b) remove yourself from the situation. Do you know how many people misunderstand this concept? Staying and fighting only makes the stress worse because you’re acting out of fear and your ego wants to win. You cannot win, especially at the expense of others.

So, let’s talk about tinnitus and stress. Tinnitus actually causes stress because of the constant ringing in your ears. The worse part about this is; when you’re stressed out your tinnitus volume goes up and you get more stressed right? That’s why tinnitus is such a hard thing because you’re constantly caught in a vicious loop of stress and constant ringing. That’s no way to live, is it?

How do you reduce the stress? Stop hating tinnitus. That’s a very hard concept for your to accept but the fact is hating tinnitus causes more stress because you’re resisting it. Don’t! Tinnitus is your friend. It’s here to tell you something about your life that you don’t already like. It’s here to tell you that you need to be taking better care of yourself. You need to be doing what you want to do instead of what others expect of you.

Acceptance of tinnitus is the key to healing. When you accept your tinnitus you will reduce the stress and anxiety that it causes and therefore you will reduce your volume. Remember, reducing stress = reducing volume. Guaranteed!

Knowing the definition of stress will help you a lot and knowing that you need to accept tinnitus will help but, it won’t give you the weapons you need to win the battle. I can’t teach you that in one email. That’s a journey you’ll need to take over a period of time. But, there’s no better time than the ‘now’ to start anything. When it’s 2 weeks from now it will be NOW! So, it will always be now and therefore you can only start, NOW! Are you confused now?

What I’m really trying to say is this; I know you can get a handle on this thing if you just make a clear conscious choice to learning everything you can about acceptance. If you don’t try, you’ll still be completely stressed out and going crazy with Tinnitus many years from now. You don’t really want that now… do you?

Tinnitus Sleep Can be Hard to Come By-Melatonin to the Rescue?

 drugs that help tinnitus

Melatonin Can Help Improve Your Sleep And Your Tinnitus.

When it comes to life with tinnitus  there is no question that the quiet time needed for a restful sleep can be a challenge. It is a daily supplement rather than from drugs that help tinnitus of Melatonin  may help improve your tinnitus and sleep patterns. It certainly has in my case since I’ve been taking it over the last 6 months after having extremely loud Tinnitus for the last 14 years.

Melatonin is actually a hormone that is secreted by the pineal gland which is situated in the centre of your brain. Melatonin which is stimulated by the onset of darkness at nighttime is a very important factor in the human body’s circadian cycle or your internal body clock.

In most people melatonin is produced to help regulate our sleeping and waking cycles but scientistcs have found that as people get older the amount produced is smaller and that this may be the reason why young people have less problems with their sleeping patterns than older ones.

Other studies have shown that melatonin has also helped people with tinnitus who develop irregular sleep patterns and does not have the hazards and side effects of prescription sleeping pills. Melatonin can also strengthen your immune system as well as reduce the free radicals in your body.

Who Can Take Melatonin?

Melatonin is like a natural nightcap and people with tinnitus can really benefit from using it regularly. Others people such as travellers, those suffering from mild sleep disorders and the aged have found that it has restored their circadian rythms and sleep cycles as well as giving them lots of energy.

The right dosage shold be prescribed by your Doctor and will differ from person to person. Normally Tinnitus sufferers can start with a smaller dosage taken before bed-time each night and then work your way up to larger doses if required.

Are there any side-effects to taking melatonin?

According to various studies about 10 percent of people who have taken melatonin under trials have reported symptoms such as bad dreams, headaches, morning fuzziness, mild depression, and a lowered sex drive.

Personally I have not experienced any of these side effects however this is why you should see and consult with your Doctor before beginning any trial of melatonin to help with your sleep patterns.

Should certain people avoid it?

Yes people such as women who are pregnant, nursing young infants, those with severe allergies, people with cancers such as leukemia or lymphoma and lastly healthy children as they are already producing plenty of melatonin naturally.

Is melatonin safe?

Melatonin is very safe and is one of the least toxic substances known and there have been very few complaints about the drug to official authorities after extensive testings. These complaints were mostly to do with melatonin causing drowsiness and a slower reaction times in certain individuals.

When should the dosage be administered?

Melatonin should be taken just before you go to bed. About half an hour is recommended. If you are traveling on a long journey or plane trip you can take a dose of melatonin before your flight.

It’s important you take it at regular times as melatonin has a significant role in setting your body’s daily clock or circadian rythms.

What are the usual ingredients in melatonin capsules or tablets?

Pure Melatonin plus standard tablet fillers and binders such as Di-Calcium Phosphate Anhydrous, Stearic Acid, Micro-Crystallin Cellulose, Silicon Dioxide, and Magnesium Stearate

Melatonin combined with a Tinnitus masking soundtrack during the night is the best way I have found to to ensure I get a great night’s sleep and it’s one of my top recommended ways of dealing with Tinnitus and sleeping issues.

Simon Healy Guest Article writer

  Webmaster advisory:

If you decide to try melatonin to help you get to sleep be sure to consult with your doctor about it. Dosage can be tricky. For me  1mg is plenty my wife takes three mg. I found that the best is to start small and add a little if sleep eludes you. Again you must consult with your M.D. and be sure ther are no reasons that you should not take melatonin or to discuss dosage. As for this going in the category of drugs that help tinnitus maybe but it really is a supplement.

There is never any medical advice served up here only advocacy for getting to know everything yo can about tinnitus so that you will be a good meduical health consumer.

Meniere’s Disease One of the Causes of Tinnitus

Meniere’s Disease - Symptoms, Causes And Treatment

Menieres affects roughly 0.2% of the population. Meniere’s disease usually starts confined to one ear as a cause of tinnitus but it often extends to involve both ears over time so that after 30 years, 50% of patients with Meniere’s have bilateral disease (Stahle et al, 1991). There is some controversy about this statistic however — some authors, for example Silverstein, suggest that the prevalence of bilaterality is as low as 17% (Silverstein, 1992). We suspect that this lower statistic is due to a lower duration of followup and that the 50% figure is more likely to be correct. Other possibilities, however, are selection bias and different patterns of the disease in different countries. Silverstein suggested that 75% of persons destined to become bilateral do so within 5 years.

Symptoms

The symptoms of Meniere’s disease occur suddenly and can arise daily or as infrequently as once a year. Vertigo, often the most debilitating symptom of Meniere’s disease, typically involves a whirling dizziness that forces the sufferer to lie down. Vertigo attacks can lead to severe nausea, vomiting, and sweating and often come with little or no warning.

Attacks of vertigo can be severe, incapacitating, and unpredictable. Some patients experience vertigo for hours or days, and this combines with an increase in volume of tinnitus and temporary, albeit significant, hearing loss. Hearing may improve after an attack, but often becomes progressively worse. Some sufferers experience what are informally known as "drop attacks" a sudden, severe attack of dizziness or vertigo that causes the sufferer, if not seated, to fall. Patients may also experience the feeling of being pushed or pulled (Pulsion). Some patients may find it impossible to get up for some time, until the attack passes or medication takes effect.

Causes

The actual cause of the fluid accumulation in the inner ear, the condition which sets off the whole process to begin with in Meniere’s Disease, is not known. In animals, experiments have been done which show that if the sac that drains fluids from the inner ear is tied off, fluid will build up in the inner ear and cause changes comparable to those in humans. Because of the observation of fluid build up in the inner ear of animals, the most commonly performed operation in the past involved drainage of the endolymphatic sac in patients with Meniere’s.

Many experts on Meniere’s disease think that a rupture of the membranous labyrinth allows the endolymph to mix with perilymph, another inner ear fluid that occupies the space between the membranous labyrinth and the bony inner ear. This mixing, scientists believe, can cause the symptoms of Meniere’s disease. Scientists are investigating several possible causes of the disease, including environmental factors, such as noise pollution and viral infections, as well as biological factors.

Treatment

Your doctor may recommend that you try to control the attacks by changing your diet. Since the disease is a result of a problem with fluid in canals of the inner ear, you may have to limit your salt intake. Controlling the level of salt in your body will indirectly control the amount of fluid in the inner ear canals. A medicine called a diuretic (water pill) may also help. You should limit the amount of caffeine and alcohol in your diet, and quit smoking if you smoke. Your doctor can prescribe medicines to help with feelings of dizziness and nausea. These medicines may cause you to feel sleepy. In difficult cases of Meniere’s disease (when attacks can’t be controlled by diet or medicines), surgery may be necessary.

Meniere’s disease is one of the causes of tinnitus the condition of ringing in the ears. This affliction has a maddening effect on some.

Neuromonics: New Medical Treatment for Tinnitus ?

recommendations for routine hearing tests

An interesting and new medical treatment for tinnitus comes to us now from the medical community. It might give new reason for hope to those people who may have tried drugs that help tinnitus and popular choice remedies for tinnitus but who are none the less still suffering as much as ever. Sound Masking or Neuromonics  as it’s the treatment is called. The principle concept of Neuromonics is very simple. Low levels of sounds are transmitted into the ear that is similar to static noise, this is done through an ear piece or headphones with the intension of distracting the patient. It is hoped that this new sound will be less annoying and more comforting to the person and with time will drown out the more annoying sounds of tinnitus. This may sound  an awful lot like the idea behind the simple noise machine people have used for years. To my way of thinking it is. If there is a difference here it is that according to researchers everyone, with continued use they believe that the brain will over a period of time and continuing Neoromonics therapy and it’s masking effect the annoying sounds of tinnitus and simply be dialed out of perception.

Neuromonics treatment is done through a portable electronic device call the Oasis ™. After a patient gone through a set of hearing tests, the masking sounds are then customized to that patient and are loaded onto the Oasis device. Those patients who have participated in the studies have reported that they are able sleep better and also daily life better than they have been able to do.

Then after a patient has been administered Neuromonics treatment for a period of time, the custom  sound is cut back for short periods of time to let the sounds of tinnitus be heard. This way the brain  gets exposed to both of the two sounds alternately and gradually get used to and in tuned with the more relaxing masking sound. The purpose of this is said by the scientists is to train the brain to totally ignore the affliction of ringing sounds and get accustomed to a more relaxing masking sound that has been created by Oasis for the individual. as ususal theis treatment starts with recommendations for routine hearing tests.

I’m afraid I am very skeptical and want to have more study of a long term nature before I will buy into the science behind Neuromonics. Some brain retraining might be done successfully, however the results might be short term as the brain may prove to be very adept at getting back to notice of the ringing ear sounds when the masking device is not in use. There is more study needed.I welcome the work being done by Oasis to relieve the stress of ringing in the ears, the sounds of tinnitus. especially grateful for those who are  discouraged by their individual failure to get good results from using drugs that help tinnitus. I need to understand this better and after I do I will report what I have found.
