The rule refers to 1910.95 mandate hearing protection program as the "Hearing Conservation Program." This program has five parts operational mandate: (1) Noise Monitoring (2) Evidence of audiometry (3) training for employees (4) hearing protectors and (5) Maintenance of records.

Sound levels in the workplace should be measured to determine which employees to include in the agenda, the need for hearing protection equipment and its suitability.

Audiometry test
All employees in the program should be a baseline to determine existing audiometric hearing loss, if any. The rule requires that audiometric tests are carried out by suitably qualified personnel, under the supervision of an audiologist or ENT doctor.

Employee training

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, reports that ear injury can develop in workers if exposed to 85 dB or more over eight hours. As a result, this 85 dB exposure limit for an eight-hour workday has become a standard in the mining, construction, oil-gas well drilling, and agriculture industries, as well as the U.S. Air Force and Army. Loss of hearing caused by excessively loud or prolonged noises is called NIHL, or noise induced hearing loss.

Sounds of less than 80 dB do not often result in hearing loss, even after long or repetitive exposure. It is not possible to predict how an individual will respond to loud noises, since each person possesses a different hearing sensitivity. This temporary loss is known as temporary threshold shift, and it will typically resolve 16 to 48 hours after the end of exposure.

Hearing loss can be permanent if the offending sound is loud enough to damage or destroy the delicate inner ear cells, called cilia, or stereo cilia, that are found in the cochlea of the inner ear. These cilia cells respond to mechanical sound vibrations by sending an electrical signal to the auditory nerve. The mechanism of injury to cilia is purely physical; excessive vibration results in microscopic tearing or breaking of the cilia. There are many cilia located in the cochlea of the ear; the more that are damaged, the more profound the deafness. Once cilia cells are chemically or physically damaged or destroyed, they will not regenerate or repair themselves.

A common sense recommendation to avoid hearing loss due to excessively loud noise is to either wear hearing protection or remove yourself from the sound source.

Use either earplugs, earmuffs or other protection devices when exposed to sounds above 85 dB. Since you cannot always be certain when your sound environment places you at risk, use this rule of thumb: If you are talking to someone three away from you and you cannot clearly hear what is being said, the noise level around you could be damaging your hearing.

 There is no tinnitus allergy but there is a relationship between allergies and tinnitus. So today let’s discuss briefly the relationship that has some people thinking there is a tinnitus allergy. In the matter of allergies and tinnitus one is causal the other result neither is any fun. It is no coinicidence that many people who suffer from allergies and other conditions that assault the sinuses suffer from the symptoms of tinnitus. This actually is something almost everyone who has experienced a cold or "stuffy head" from a cold has encountered to one degree or an other. I’ll be sharing with you an amazing secret which will control your tinnitus volume like nothing else out there. The catch is; it may just be the hardest thing you’ve ever had to learn.

It’s hard because most people do not understand even what it is that’s making your ringing louder, increasing the hearing pulse ringing in ears let alone how to deal with it. You hear it talked about all the time. Many people know the symptoms of it but, the vast majority of people have no idea how to deal with it. It’s not the situation that’s causing you stress, it’s the energy you put into resisting the situation. Here comes the ringing or hearing pulse in the ears. So, how do you not resist it? Well, there’s really only 2 non-resistant choices you can make in any stressful situation and that is to either; a) accept it or b) remove yourself from the situation. Do you know how many people misunderstand this concept? Staying and fighting only makes the stress worse because you’re acting out of fear and your ego wants to win. You cannot win, especially at the expense of others.

So, let’s talk about tinnitus and stress. Tinnitus actually causes stress because of the constant ringing in your ears. The worse part about this is; when you’re stressed out your tinnitus volume goes up and you get more stressed right? That’s why tinnitus is such a hard thing because you’re constantly caught in a vicious loop of stress and constant ringing. That’s no way to live, is it?

How do you reduce the stress? Stop hating tinnitus. That’s a very hard concept for your to accept but the fact is hating tinnitus causes more stress because you’re resisting it. Don’t! Tinnitus is your friend. It’s here to tell you something about your life that you don’t already like. It’s here to tell you that you need to be taking better care of yourself. You need to be doing what you want to do instead of what others expect of you.

Acceptance of tinnitus is the key to healing. When you accept your tinnitus you will reduce the stress and anxiety that it causes and therefore you will reduce your volume. Remember, reducing stress = reducing volume. Guaranteed!

Knowing the definition of stress will help you a lot and knowing that you need to accept tinnitus will help but, it won’t give you the weapons you need to win the battle. I can’t teach you that in one email. That’s a journey you’ll need to take over a period of time. But, there’s no better time than the ‘now’ to start anything. When it’s 2 weeks from now it will be NOW! So, it will always be now and therefore you can only start, NOW! Are you confused now?

What I’m really trying to say is this; I know you can get a handle on this thing if you just make a clear conscious choice to learning everything you can about acceptance. If you don’t try, you’ll still be completely stressed out and going crazy with Tinnitus many years from now. You don’t really want that now… do you?
